She is sort of a wanderer, being born in Virginia, but out of Canada, living in Tucson, and now Vermont. Maybe her origin is so vague that she suggests she might have been birthed by the music. I tend to see a more personal side of this song as well: it reminds me of the songs my mom would sing to me and the effect those have had, and maybe Neko Case had an influence like that as well.
