Five Records with… Zane Williams
I had the chance to talk to Zane Williams this week, a fantastic songwriter and recent Texas transplant. He just finished a record with Radney Foster that will come out in the next few months, and shared five records that impacted his life. Five Records is an occasional feature with artists talking about the music that inspires them. Read more of these posts here.
“I started listening to country when I was in high school in the early 90’s. Songs like “Unanswered Prayers” and “Two of a Kind Workin on a Full House” really drew me in, and when I wrote my first song I tried to emulate that…and fell far short”
“Bruce manages to write great songs, put out quality indie records, play to appreciative crowds in his own backyard, and get mailbox money courtesy of major label stars…who wouldn’t want that career?”
“I didn’t grow up having family or friends that listened to music like this, and so I had never really dug into Guy’s work. While I was making my new record, I figured it was time to remedy that, so I spent the money on iTunes for the “essential” Guy Clark collection.”
“I could’ve chosen a hundred different songs I wish I had written, but I wanted to mention Hayes because he’s one of my favorite “new” artists in the Americana world. “She Left Me For Jesus” shows the lighter side of what he does and the entertainer in him really comes out — but it’s still smart and well written! Great video, too…”

“I love Corb Lund – bought this album last spring after hearing him live and on 95.3 The Range. Corb is so freakin’ unique and unfiltered – to have built the career he has built without compromising or diluting his distinctiveness is remarkable and inspiring.”
